|I have personally sought to achieve the highest quality possible through my own experience with print and digital technology whether that be with cameras, monitors, software or print devices. I have personally owned many different technologies and operated or utilized many more that vary in size, operation and quality.
My present camera system here at Duggal Visual solutions is the Hasselblad H4D 200MS. This camera is lightyears ahead of the pack with the ability to capture in 16 bit and produce an astoudning 1 Gigabyte file in one mulit-shot setting. Whenviewing the 1Gig file for the very first time, critical clients are impressed as I when I first saw it - you’re really not certain what you are looking at becasue the quality is so far superior to anything that exists its almost like looking at the molecular level of digital data. Due to the pricece tag of this camera there are only 4 commercially owned in the NYC area.
Of course - all this amazing data or hi-def imagery serves no purpose unless the output device one is using is capable to produce a 16 bit print. That is when I was deeply moved by the resolution, detail, clarity and color integrity of the Poli-Printer. Never in all my years of shooting, printing and creating abstract solutions for uniqe imaging projects have I ever had the experience of seeing and image with so much detail it is almost unbelievable that such a system even exists on the planet.
The carpet project I was given by a client was to reproduce a Rag Rug for enlargemetn and display at a local exhibit here in NYC. Color was paramount and detial was assured by the H4D capture but the print final was to be determined by a test for the first install of the Poli Printer.
As you see the following images of the original shot, the proofing of the Durac Clear print on our large vertical lightbox and the final print on metallic paper. The client was beside himself when he coud see the mocro fibers of the Rug with robust color and extreme clarity without using any magnification. This file was printed for an inhouse sample for our perspetive clients to show the extreme capabilities of the printer. To date that print is regularly used to truly impress the doubting client that such a detailed print could even exist.
In many cases here at Duggal, the extreme quality of the image capture of the H4D was always suppressed by the limitations of our printers - from Durst to Epson - LightJet to Lambda as the highest grade print machines. Nothing could truly being out the fine fine detail that was apparent in the file - until we installed the Poli Printer. The buzz went around the company quickly and all the directors of different print deviions had to come see for their own eyes. The detail was without question the best anyone had ever seen. Pin point sharpness with smooth gradients and amazing detail in the darkest of shadows. This was truy the pinnacle of digital print machines.
Another client has asked us to enlarge a very intricate design of a doily. It contained many different aspects of ocean life with earthy materials woven into the adjoining fabric. This 400% enlargement image of the doily was also to be displayed at a local exhibit if we could create an exact replica to be sold and auctioned off for a fund raiser. The client was ecstatic was she saw the hi-definition detail of the smallest of threads she used to join the differeing elements that made up the entire doily. This image also was printed as an extra copy for Duggal and used in our increasing slection of samples to impress clients.
The most impressive and moving project to date was an artist who was unable to to pursue his love of art for the past 15 years due to cataracts. Fortunately with the new medical procedures to remove and correct vision he was able to see again and delve back into his lost love. He created many lifelike portraits in pencil. He had no idea what to expect when he brought in the newest of 6 pieces he had created since the success of his corrective eye surgery. He had no idea of the evolvement of technology over the past 20 years. I shot all his unique originals that clearly showed the progression he had made since his operation of the series of 7. The final one being so photrealistic it even fooled me when I opened the package. It truly had photographic like shading, detail and transitions. The scene itself is remarkable, the Nude is very insightful of perspective and depth of field that captures a magical moment in open water. When the artist saw the reproductions we printed on the poli printer we captured the moment on video. Tears came to his eyes as he closely viewed something he had never seen before. they we so close to the orginal even the carbon elements of his pencils were brought to life by the combination of the Hasselblad H4D and the Poli Printer. I am convinced without a dbout there is nothing on earth that copuld have com close to the pricision of recreating those 7 peieces of a new born artist that was in awe of waht he saw on the viewing board. The Nude was the highlight of my day when he laid his newly repaired eyes on the detail of a new technology that in esssence was also like a set of new eyes for me.
